A lot of people think that Edvard Munch’s iconic chalk painting, The Scream, fetched the highest price ever paid for a work of art at an auction, bringing in almost 120 million U.S. dollars. It wasn’t even close. For some reason those people are ignoring the work of Bristol’s semi-underground graffiti artist, Banksy, whose work has sold for as much as four times as much as The Scream at auction.
Banksy’s graffiti has received protected status in many communities around the world. One of his most recognizable pieces is Bboy. This instantly recognizable Banksy work features a street-tough hip hop kid carrying his teddy bear. The message is both obvious, and extremely subtle, a hallmark of all great works of art. The original graffiti appeared on a wall in a lower middle class section of London known as Dalston.
