The Fleur de lis has a long and intricate history as a decorative design that represents a number of Catholic saints, particularly St. Joseph. French in origin, this symbol has been used by French royalty and on numerous French coats of arms. This traditional symbol even crossed the Atlantic Ocean to become a strong symbol of French Canadian presence and culture. It is featured in the Canadian coat of arms and on the Quebec flag.
